Put on your favorite music, hit the gas pedal, and enjoy all the beauty you encounter along the way! In theory, you can take a road trip in almost any country, but there are countries that are better suited for it than others. Over the past few years, we’ve had the opportunity to embark on some extraordinary road trips, and here are 7 tips for countries that are perfect for an adventurous road trip.

Costa Rica

Are you a nature and wildlife enthusiast? Then Costa Rica is absolutely your thing! Did you know that Costa Rica is home to approximately half a million different plant and animal species and has more than 100 volcanoes? We’ve taken two road trips through this amazing country, and both times we were amazed at what we saw. Sometimes you drive right through the jungle, visit the most tropical beaches, and spot exotic animals along the way. In certain parts of the country, parrots fly all around you, and you might be surprised to suddenly see a sloth crossing the road. You can be active or relax – chill on the beach or hop on your surfboard and experience that famous “pura vida” feeling in Costa Rica!

Iceland

If there’s one country that’s truly perfect for a road trip, it’s Iceland. Not only are the famous landmarks beautiful, but also the landscapes you encounter along the way. During a road trip through Iceland, you’ll come across countless stunning waterfalls, the most beautiful mountains, rugged coastline, canyons, and glaciers. In Iceland, it’s not about the destination, but everything in between. Every five minutes, you’ll want to pull over because every turn reveals another brilliant view. There’s a big difference between visiting Iceland in summer and winter. In summer, all roads are accessible, and you can drive around the entire island. In winter, conditions are completely different with lots of snow. Taking a road trip then is more challenging, and certain parts of the road may be closed. Both seasons are beautiful with their own advantages and disadvantages.

Mexico

Mexico! Another fantastic country for a road trip. Mexico is an incredibly large country, and here we mainly focus on the Yucatan Peninsula in the south. During this road trip, you’ll visit the most paradisiacal places. The sea water is so clear that you can see every fish swim by, and the beaches are so white that it hurts your eyes without sunglasses. In addition, in southern Mexico, you’ll find thousands of cenotes with crystal-clear water, some hidden underground and others right on the surface. Even if you’re not averse to a bit of history and culture, Mexico is the place to be. There are many ancient Mayan temples here, including the world-famous Maya temple Chichén Itzá.
