During our travels, we always look for the most distinctive and beautiful hotels. From a charming boutique hotel to a cute beach bungalow, as long as it has something special that makes your trip extra enjoyable. We found some unique places in Mexico that we'd love to share with you. Below you'll find our favorite hotels and hostels in a handy overview. You can count on having a great time here. Many of these hostels and hotels are very popular, so it might be wise to book in advance.
Note: We mention "starting prices". In Mexico, prices can vary greatly depending on the season and sometimes even quadruple. As a result, the price you see with us may be very different from the price for your dates. Unfortunately, we can't do anything about this. Casa de Olas is a super stylish boutique hotel where you probably won't want to leave. The hotel has a hip atmosphere and a lovely vibe. There's a cool bar, a pool, lots of comfy seating, games, and you can even join yoga classes. They also offer free bicycles to use, and the staff is incredibly friendly.

If you're looking for a peaceful hostel, One Love Hostel is the best choice in Puerto Escondido. This ultra-relaxed hostel offers an idyllic bungalow surrounded by lush greenery, and you can join a daily yoga class. The beach and the main street of La Punta are just a few minutes' walk away, making the location superb.

Azul Cielo
If you prefer a cozy hostel, Azul Cielo is one of the best places to stay in Oaxaca. This charming hostel has a courtyard with many cozy seating areas and a great atmosphere. It's located about a kilometer from the city center, and free bikes are available for you to borrow.

Hotel La Ceiba
Hotel La Ceiba has a beautiful large garden and simple but great rooms. Unfortunately, towards the end of the dry season, the nearby river can emit an unpleasant odor, which could be a problem from late February to early April. But the rest of the year, this is just a really nice option in Chiapa de Corzo.

Mansion del Valle
Chiapa de Corzo has only a few hotels, so unfortunately there is not much choice, but Hotel Mansion del Valle de Chiapa de Corzo is a nice small-scale hotel located directly on the central square of Chiapa de Corzo. It is a bit noisy, so it's smart to bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Nice hotels in Mazunte
Tierra Viva
The location of Tierra Viva is perfect! From this hotel, you are within a few minutes at Playa Mazunte, and all the good restaurants and cafes are nearby. Tierra Viva is one of the few hotels in Mazunte that has air conditioning. The rooms are not very special, but have everything you need, and some even have a kitchen. This is an ideal base to explore the nice town of Mazunte.

Un Sueño Cabañas
Who wouldn't want to sleep in an idyllic beach hut? At Un Sueño Cabañas del Pacífico, you fall asleep with the sounds of the sea in the background, and the first thing you do in the morning is take a dip in the sea. This hotel is located on Playa San Agustinillo, 1 kilometer away from the town of Mazunte. Luckily, there are constant collectivos that will take you there and back in a few minutes.

Nice hotels in Palenque
Cabañas Kin Balam
Cabañas Kin Balam is located just before the entrance to the Maya temples in Palenque. Here, you wake up in the morning to the sound of howler monkeys and see parrots flying overhead from the pool. They have many different types of rooms to fit every budget, including dorms. There is a nice pool and a good restaurant.

Hotel La Aldea
If you have a slightly larger budget, Hotel La Aldea is a great choice. This hotel is also located at the entrance of the park and in the middle of the jungle. There is a nice pool surrounded by greenery, and here too, you have a good chance of spotting wildlife. You will stay in a comfortable double room with air conditioning and a good bed.

Pecarí B&B
If you prefer to stay in a quiet B&B, then Pecarí is a great choice. The owners are super friendly and happy to give you tips on, for example, good restaurants in the area. In the morning, you will get a nice breakfast, and there is a small pool. The room is a bit outdated but has a comfortable bed and good air conditioning.

Nomads Hotel & Rooftop Pool
Located near the ADO bus station in Cancun, the cozy Nomads Hostel is a great place to meet other travelers and have a good time. There's a rooftop pool, a pool table, and a fun bar where you can also eat. You can choose between a nice double room or a comfortable dorm.

Nice hotels in Playa del Carmen
Magic Blue Hotel
This delightful hotel is a little paradise in the middle of Playa del Carmen. It's close to all the restaurants and shops, but you won't be bothered by the noise as you relax in the peaceful surroundings. There's a large pool with plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and tropical plants all around. This hotel is for adults only.

Casa de las Flores is an affordable option in Playa del Carmen. The atmosphere in this colorful hotel is Mexican through and through, with lots of murals and every wall painted in a different color. The location is ideal, close to the beach and the center. There's a nice pool and a cozy courtyard.

Coco Hacienda Tulum
At Coco Hacienda Tulum, it's pure enjoyment! There are two pools with plenty of lounge chairs and a beautifully landscaped garden. There are rooms in different price ranges, some even with a luxurious bathtub. You can also borrow bicycles for free, and the staff does everything they can to make your stay unforgettable.

Imagine this: you step out of your bed, walk out of your hut, and you can immediately take a dip in the azure blue sea of Tulum. Sounds like a dream, right? At Chancabañita, that dream becomes a reality. It's also one of the cheapest options in Tulum Beach, which is great because you can easily pay an average of $250 per night there.

Experience a unique stay at Casa de Gandhi. This hotel is like a museum, with vintage and retro items everywhere you look. You can clearly see that the owner is a passionate man. Casa de Gandhi has only been around for a few years and is run by a lovely family who are always ready to help.

If you're traveling low-budget through Mexico, we highly recommend La Abuelita Hostel in San Cristóbal de las Casas. It's one of the nicest hostels where you can stay for a bargain price. It's not a party hostel, but it's definitely cozy. There's a shared kitchen, and the location is very central.

Hotel El Pueblito
This beautiful hotel is a great base for exploring Isla Holbox. You'll stay in a beautiful and spacious room with everything you need. The king-size beds are comfortable, and the rooms are nicely decorated in Mexican style. The location is great too, as it's right in the middle of the town and close to the beach.

Traveling through Mexico on a smaller budget? Then Golden Paradise Hostel is perfect. You'll stay in a comfortable double room with air conditioning, there's a large garden with hammocks and a shared kitchen. This is the best low-budget option on Isla Holbox!

Looking for a low-budget stay in Valladolid? Hostel Candelaria is perfect. For a super good price, you can stay in a double room or dorm and a tasty breakfast is included. There's a cozy garden and it's only two blocks away from the central square.

Casa Bamboo is the best choice if you prefer to stay in a small and comfortable hotel. This hotel exudes a lovely atmosphere. There's a small but nice pool and the rooms have good air conditioning and a comfortable bed. The location is super central and at the same time peaceful.

Nice hotels in Bacalar
Agam Hotel
Agam Hotel is a top choice with the best price-quality ratio in Bacalar. The advantages are the bar, the nice pool and the small garden with hammocks. The downside for us were the beds, which are a bit hard, and that it can be a bit noisy sometimes. Despite that, it's a very nice place where you can easily meet other people.

BOA BOA Bacalar
Looking for more luxury and something truly special? Then we recommend BOA BOA. Located just outside the center, you'll stay in a bungalow by the water with an amazing view over Laguna Bacalar. What a paradise! There are rooms with and without air conditioning, so when booking you should check which room you're reserving.
