What is the Nordic Nomads concept?

Iceland is often called the land of fire and ice, and it might just be one of the most extraordinary countries in the world. A unique country deserves a unique travel experience, and that’s what Nordic Nomads provides. You’ll journey across the country in a 4×4 camper that’s been specially equipped. Your sleeping quarters will be a rooftop tent, so when you unzip it in the morning, you’ll have a rugged Icelandic landscape right outside.

The Route Along Iceland’s Ring Road

Nordic Nomads has mapped out a route along one of the most iconic roads in the world, Iceland’s Ring Road. You’ll visit the highlights but also venture off the beaten path to places not found in tourist guidebooks. The journey is entirely self-guided, and you set the pace. At the start of your trip, you’ll receive a GPS with the route, making it easy to tour the island. Each day, you’ll drive to a fantastic camper site where you can spend the night in your rooftop tent, often in a stunning remote location, complete with amenities like sanitation, electricity, and water connections.

The Nordic Nomads Weekly Schedule

On Day 1, you’ll arrive in Iceland and pick up your 4×4 with a rooftop tent. This day involves a journey of about 90 kilometers (55 miles) , from Keflavik to the island’s most famous region: the Golden Circle. The next day, you’ll further explore the Golden Circle with a 241-kilometer (150-mile) drive. Three highlights and natural phenomena you’ll witness there are the Þingvellir National Park, the Geysir, and the Gulfoss waterfalls. You’ll also walk by the active geyser Strokkur, which erupts every few minutes. On the third day, you’ll travel from Vik in the south to Skaftafell National Park, featuring waterfalls, impressive canyons, and glaciers. The campsite you’ll stay at that day is in a beautiful location near a waterfall river valley, surrounded by rivers, waterfalls, and scenic viewpoints.

On the fourth day of the journey, you’ll continue towards the north of Iceland, to Seyðisfjörður. This is one of the most beautiful routes in the country. Eventually, you’ll spend the night on the edge of a volcanic lake in Myvatn, and the next day, you’ll have time to explore the area. You’ll end this day in Husavik, the whale-watching capital of Iceland. Here, you can take a tour or visit one of Iceland’s most beautiful natural pools.

On Day 6, you’ll cover 277 kilometers (141 miles) as you head to the northernmost point of Iceland. There, you’ll find the colorful fishing village of Siglufjörður, where you can immerse yourself in Icelandic life for a while, before continuing your journey through stunning wild landscapes to your next overnight spot. On the last day, you’ll drive back toward Reykjavik, passing through green valleys in the interior.

Traveling with 2 or 4 People

The Nordic Nomads route is an independent journey that you’ll navigate on your own. You have the option of two types of vehicles, suitable for either 2 or a maximum of 4 people. If you choose to travel with four people, you’ll receive an additional tent for your use.

Food and Drinks During the Journey

You can imagine that you won’t just come across restaurants and supermarkets everywhere in Iceland, but during this trip, there are a few along the route. They are marked on the map you’ll receive, so you can decide when to make a pit stop for groceries. In the car, you’ll also find a basic cooking set, so you can cook your own meals during the week if you don’t want to dine at a restaurant or if there are no charming places nearby. Through Nordic Nomads, you can optionally order a meal package, which provides enough food for the entire journey.

Prices and Dates for Nordic Nomads

The trips take place between June and September and are offered on various dates. The base price for the journey is $670 excluding flights. You can choose to arrange the flights yourself, or you can also book them through Nordic Nomads. The total price will then be $1030 including round-trip flights.
