Dolomiti Trail: A Breathtaking Hut-to-Hut Trek Through the Dolomites

The Dolomites might just be the most spectacular part of the Alps. During the Dolomiti Trail, you’ll hike from hut to hut while taking in rugged peaks, green valleys, and enchanting turquoise-blue lakes. Along the way, you’ll experience a balanced mix of adventure and comfort, as each stage of the trail reveals a new side of the UNESCO World Heritage wonder.

What is the concept?

The Dolomiti Trail is a 6-day hut-to-hut trek where every day reveals a new piece of Italy’s most beautiful mountain range. The route is carefully planned: you’ll start at the photogenic Lago di Sorapis, hike past rugged peaks and quiet alpine lakes, and by day 2 you’ll already be face-to-face with the iconic Lago di Braies. Along the way, you’ll cross remote valleys, follow sections of the famous Alta Via, and climb mountain passes with jaw-dropping views.

The highlight of the week is the hike around the Tre Cime di Lavaredo, perhaps the most famous view in all of the Dolomites. Thanks to two short shuttle transfers along the way, you can discover a surprisingly large part of the region in just one week—without feeling rushed.

Sleeping in mountain huts

After a long day of climbing in the majestic Alps, there’s nothing better than a welcoming place to rest and recharge. Luckily, the Dolomites are dotted with some of the most picturesque mountain huts, guaranteeing a truly unique overnight stay. Along the trail you’ll encounter them in all shapes and sizes. These rifugi, as the Italians call them, date back to World War I, when many served as supply depots or aid stations. Today, they’ve taken on a new role—as cozy refuges for hikers to eat, sleep, and regain their energy. There’s simply no better way to spend the night authentically in the high mountains.

Self-guided hike through the Dolomites

This hut-to-hut trek is self-guided, which means you hike the trails independently and at your own pace. The beauty of it is that everything is already arranged for you: from charming accommodations to a carefully mapped-out route. That way you don’t have to worry about logistics and can fully enjoy the peace and beauty of nature.

Even though you’re free to hike alone, you’re never completely on your own. Rangers are always nearby and ready to help if needed. On the first day of the trail, you’ll receive a detailed briefing from a ranger. You’ll also get all the necessary materials and access to a handy app where you can easily find the route and additional info. From there, you head out on your own adventure. Midway through the week, you’ll meet the crew again at the campsite, but in between they remain available for help or questions at any time.
