What to Do on Arborek?
There isn’t much to do on Arborek, but there are definitely a few things that you shouldn’t miss.
Walk Through the Village of Arborek
Around 200 people live on Arborek, which is quite a lot for such a small island! A walk through the village takes you past small shops, a church, and a school. Life is simple here, and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxed. We were struck by how friendly the people are on Arborek. The smiling locals and waving children made us feel very welcome on their island. There’s also a shop where they sell handmade souvenirs.
Spot Mantas at Manta Point and Manta Sandy
During the manta season, from December to April, it’s a must to go snorkeling or diving with manta rays. Close to Arborek, there are two spots where giant manta rays are often seen. Of course, it’s always a matter of luck, but there’s a good chance you’ll spot entire groups of manta rays here. You can dive or snorkel at these locations.
Tip: Arborek Dive Shop is a PADI-certified dive school on Arborek and is highly recommended if you want to dive. Don’t confuse this dive school with Arborek Dive Homestay. The names are almost the same, but these two dive schools are separate from each other.
Snorkel Around the Arborek Jetty
On such a densely populated island, you might not expect it, but the waters around Arborek are teeming with life. If you jump off the Arborek pier with your snorkel, it feels like swimming in an aquarium. Large schools of fish, colorful coral, and turtles are just part of the standard scenery here. You can snorkel for hours!
Visit Arborek as a Day Trip or Stay Overnight?
We chose to visit Arborek as a day trip from Gam. Of course, you can also choose to stay overnight, but it’s not a must. There isn’t much to do, and since it’s such a small island, you’ll have seen it pretty quickly.
